Origin of Aromatherapy

Origin of AromatherapyAromatherapy is something one is unconsciously aware of since origin of mankind. It is the power of smell to brighten up a moment due to its rich fragrance like smell of rose. On the contrary foul smells almost constrict normal breathing and cause irritability. This proves that smell has power to initiate a reaction within humans.

But aromatherapy was technically found around 1920 when a French chemist by mistake spilled some essential oils on his arm which caught fire. The accident proved to be quite a pleasant experience for him as the lavender oil provided cool sensation to the burnt out arm and reduced the pain. There was a healing touch in the liquid which helped in even reducing the days required for recovery. To his delight he found that there were little scars or blisters due to the burn.

Hence the French chemist involved himself into researching about the chemical properties of the various essential oils. Various theories were taken into consideration before coming up with the practice of aromatherapy. Today the practice of aromatherapy is widely known and has led to the expansion of spas and other such places which provide alternative ways of healing and curing diseases.
